Foreclosure and Eviction Moratorium Extended

by | Jan 21, 2021 | Bankruptcy Law |

On January 20, 2021 President Biden signed an executive order extending moratorium on mortgage foreclosures and evictions until March 31, 2021. This means that if you are behind with your mortgage payments, the foreclosure cannot go forward until after March 31, 2021. In addition, if you lease an apartment and are behind with rent, you cannot be evicted until after that date. However, just because they are delayed does not mean that you will not eventually have to pay the arrearages. That is why if you are behind with your mortgage, rent, credit cards, medical bills, or anything else you should consult with an attorney now to plan ahead. Most bankruptcy lawyers do not charge a fee for an initial meeting and knowing what your options are in advance is best for planning. Knowing that you do have options will also help relieve the anxiety that many are feeling.
